Canyon's First Christmas

This year was Canyon's first Christmas. For presents God gave him his Daddy, protection over his Mommy's life, and his life. He also received some special toys and gifts from family and friends. It was a blessing watch him open the gifts and play with the toys tonight.

As you can see in the picture Canyon is sitting on Scott's lap in front of our tree at home in Wheaton. God allowed us to get home by Amy and Stan's truck, Amtrack, Metra, and Matt Kosten's Car. We got home by about 11PM on Christmas eve. We were part of the group waiting for Amtrack for 8 hours in Kalamazoo. It was the best 8 hours of my life! I shared with who ever would listen to our Christmas Miracle story, and God allowed us to bring JOY to others in a difficult situation. The biggest joy was just keeping it all in perspective. My husband, Son, and I are alive. (more on the accident in future)
We have experienced the care of The Sovereign God of the Universe and his Angels, The Creator of all. God spared Scott's life by 8 inches. Canyon and I came out with one cut on my hand, Canyon didn't have a scratch. My heart is drawn to the Psalms.
Psalm 8
How Majestic Is Your Name
To the choirmaster: according to The Gittith. A Psalm of David.
1O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
2 Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.

3When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?

5Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.
6You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under his feet,
7all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
8the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

9O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

What is Man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you would care for him? All praise to Jesus our Savior, our hope, Light, and the Joy behind every smile. Jesus, We praise you for coming to Earth, Happy Birthday!

We're Thankful

This picture was taken on Thanksgiving Day 11/27/08 in front of where we live. Canyon is 11 months old. We have much to be thankful for this year. Scott's work, a home to live in, our marriage of 7 yrs!, Canyon!! (Canyon took his first steps 12/2. He is not walking yet, but we are sure those days are not far off!) Lornel is especially thankful for the True Woman Conference and a trip out East to visit family and friends, and most importantly we are both thankful for Christ Jesus our best friend.
Thank you Lord for...
Your Word
Praying for...
direction and God's timing in the next step
encouragement in Scripture memory (Lornel through James 1... Scott doing better but we still need prayer!)

Canyon at World Dairy Expo

Canyon loved the Cows! The Holstein is the type of cows that Peter and Elizabeth have. We thought of them when we put the button on
Canyon! "Vote for the Holstein" was a fun phrase of the day!

Fun times in Wisconsin

Thanks to our Best friends, Peter and Elizabeth we were introduced to the World Dairy Expo last year. We had such a fun time with them at this event last year that Scott wanted to take Me and Canyon to it this year. He took a day off work and on Wednesday the 1st, we went to Madison, WI. This may have been the first time Canyon saw a cow. HE loved the world dairy expo. Toward the end of the day, he was pretty sleepy, he started to fall asleep on Scott's shoulders. After the expo, We went to a nearby orchard to pick apples. I walked in the store room, and I immediately thought of Buell's Orchard. It smelled the same. It brought back so many CT memories. How I would love to go back to East this fall. I miss our family and friends. It is hard to be so far away. Since Canyon has started to do more stuff, I have really been wanting Canyon to meet precious people in my life who haven't met him yet. I am trusting the Lord's leading in having us here and for His timing on a trip to visit.
Here is another video of Canyon at the Orchard. He liked seeing the sheep! On the drive home, he even imitated a baaaaaaa sound! It was a precious time together as a family. I am thankful that we had such a nice day! God was good to us and protected us all the way there and all the way back.

Cutie

Canyon was peeking out the screen door as I was grilling out the last week in Sept. He loves playing peek-a-boo! He is a real sweet boy!

Camp was wonderful

We had another great week serving at Camp in NW Wisconsin. It was a blessing to see some of the same campers as last year and share what God laid on our hearts. Thank you for praying for us. Canyon had alittle rougher time than we anticipated at night, but over all he really enjoyed all the campers and the time with Daddy!

We're going back to Camp

Canyon is very excited to go to his first ever week of camp!

We are anticipating God to work in our lives and the lives of the children and teens in Northwest Wisconsin this week.

Would you stand with us in prayer that God would all of the staff and that we could communicate God's word clearly. May Jesus be lifted high!

Canyon on the move!

Laughter, what a gift II

video taken 6/26/08

Canyon is 6 1/2 months old!

Grace upon Grace from God. This is exactly what we have experienced this last month. More than would ever deserve. We moved to Wheaton and the new place, well, it is incredible. One special blessing was we were able to put some color on the walls (Gold, Lornel's favorite, blue for Canyon's room, and a lighter green in our bedroom.) Scott painted most of the 4th of July weekend. We both acknowledge that this new place is ONLY temporary as we are still seeking God for our future ministry. Our desire is still to serve the LORD overseas. Pray we will be found faithful cultivating a missions heart right here where we are. We are excited about shining Jesus in our new place. He is the giver of all good gifts even colorfully painted walls!!!!!

Canyon is doing so much now. Starting to pull himself up to standing, sitting up on his own very well, crawling pretty well, developing balance, has 2 teeth coming in on the bottom center, he is eating solid foods, and is growing and growing at 6 month check up 18 lbs 8 oz, 28''! He is half a year old! He is the sweetest!

We are also going through a series in the book of James. Our Pastor put out a challenge for anyone who wanted to memorize the book with him. So, we are working committing it to memory.

Well, hope you are doing well. We appreciated getting prayer requests from you last month, please let us know how we can pray for you again this month.

Praises:
  • God's GRACE upon GRACE in all areas of our lives
  • Looking forward to Camp first week of August in NW Wisconsin
How can we pray for you?

With much love, Scott and Lornel and Canyon Paul

Celebrations!

Canyon and I had a blast celebrating Scott's 30th Birthday! Canyon even crawled for the first time for the occasion! We gave Scott the box of cards and as I counted them there were over 40 cards and emails!!! Thank you everyone who send your wishes! There were some really funny, some serious, along with some new Mexican recipes! It was such a blessing to hear from so many! Thank you again!

After all the cards were opened I took this video.

The Little Man

Picture taken at Canyon's first Picnic at Herrick Lake 4/16

It has been such a sweet month here in the Curey home.
We have watched Canyon grow and grow! At his 4 month check up he weighed in at 16lbs 11 oz, and is now 27 inches tall. He makes all kinds of sounds such as "singing", brrrrrrrr with his lips, and his sweet laugh! He tried his first Rice Cereal yesterday, (see video) and we think he liked it!

Good bye to a good friend
I met Linda shortly after we moved in to the apartment complex. Linda would walk outside and I joined her on different occasions. She has become a sweet friend to me. Earlier this spring Linda's high school sweet heart came back into her life, and they were married on April 4. She moved away last Friday to Southern IL. Hard to say good bye and see her go. Canyon will miss her alot. She has babysat Canyon on many occasions. I am thankful that God brought her into our lives for a short time. We miss you Aunt Linda!

We have been reading different books as part of the missions program. Scott is reading "Serving as Senders" and I have been reading "Let the Nations be Glad: the supremacy of God in Missions" by John Piper.

Thinking of you, hope you are well.

Praises
  • Canyon is doing well, growing, developmentally, and a continual joy!
  • Lornel's Dad is coming to meet Canyon next week!
  • Scott's time off approved for Camp in August it is official we are going back to camp in WI. Scott's Uncle asked him to teach the teens. I will get to teach the bible class to 12's. So excited!!!
  • For Linda!
Pray
  • Scott's teaching opportunities at our church (leading prayer/devotional 5/4, teaching 5/11)
  • Continued faithfulness and growth
  • Wisdom and direction about housing our lease is up end of June

Rolled Over

Canyon Rolled over for the first time this weekend. He has not ceased to amaze us! He is 3 months old. He is becoming very social and interactive with just about everyone. I have to plan extra time when I go out as everyone loves to talk to him. He smiles at mostly everyone.

Hope you are all well. We love you all and we are thankful for you.

Praise:
  • Scott's first lesson was very good at the prison. He taught the book of Jonah. He was very encouraged. The the men had many good questions and discussion to add to the lesson.
  • God's protection as we helped our good friends move. Scott was injured slightly but he is healing really well. We praise God for these friends we got to help. They are such an incredible family.

Pray for:
  • Continued guidance and wisdom as to our future plans (in June we will have been here a year)
  • Not to worry about little things
  • To be thirsty for God and the Bible

Adjustments

We are so glad to have Canyon. We are adjusting well to parenthood. He has been growing and changing so much. He smiles alot, laughs, and, our favorite, goes over his boppy pillow. He weighs 13lbs 10 oz and is 25 inches long. He had a good 2 month check up on the 27th. This has been such a sweet time in our marriage and in our lives. We are so blessed! One item of thanksgiving is for how well he is doing at sleeping through the night. Very thankful for Gary Ezzo's book called on Becoming Babywise.
New ministry opportunity
Scott is has been a part of the jail ministry at DuPage County Jail on Tuesday evenings. He will get the chance to teach in a couple weeks. Scott is adjusting to his new workplace. The complex is older so there are more maintenance needs. At times it has been a bit challenging, but his attitude has been so great!
Quick weekend Trip to MI
Canyon took his first trip to MI last weekend. We were excited to welcome his newest cousin Baby Stan born exactly 2 months after Canyon. Scott's younger sister, Amy, and her husband Stan, were very surprised! It was a blessing for Canyon to meet all his MI cousins, great grandparents, and Church family at LABC!

Praises
  • Lornel can stay home with Canyon
  • God's provision and direction, and calling on our lives (even when we don't see it all)
  • this sweet time in our lives as we adjust to being a family of 3.
  • baby Stan born on 2/27
Prayer Requests
  • Scott as he teaches for Jail ministry
  • to be faithful to seeking God's guidance for the next step
  • for good time management

With much love,

Scott and Lornel
and Canyon Paul
